Documents You Need to Apply for a Mortgage

One of the easiest ways to speed up your mortgage is to have your documents ready before you apply. Most lenders ask for a similar set of items.

Income

  • Recent pay stubs
  • W-2s or 1099s from the past two years
  • Tax returns, especially if you are self-employed
  • Documentation of other income such as bonuses or rental income

Assets

  • Recent bank statements
  • Retirement and investment account statements
  • A gift letter if any of your funds are a gift

Identity and property

You will also provide a government ID, and once you are under contract, the purchase agreement and details about the property.
